Minimal Free 2020 Download Calendar

For two years, I have been using Jenny Mustard's free minimalist calendar. But I think, it hasn't been updated since 2018. So I decided to make my own calendar template. And I will try to update it every year.

You can print this calendar at home. No special paper needed. I provide two household printer-friendly versions below, one with a heavier and one with an extremely light-weight font.

I like to have a printed calendar better than using an app. For a long time, I was very fond of Google Calendar. But I grew out of it. I also don't like typing all the time, especially not on a touchscreen.

Writing has become a calming activity for me. I like how it helps me to organize my thoughts—not just my tasks. Keeping a physical calendar makes it easier for me to stay organized. It creates a visually pleasing overview of my monthly to dos.

How this simple calendar helps me achieve my tasks better than any app

A calendar is, in many ways, not super minimalist. It is a paper item. So, it that brings a little bit of visual clutter. But for me it is perfect.

A printed calendar is a daily reminder of tasks and achievements.
It is a powerful habit builder.
The calendar can be used to take notes or write down small thoughts of gratitude.
It helps remembering deadlines and meetings better than any app, because writing is an activity with haptic feedback, and it therefore nurtures a healthy memory.

Minimalist habits to keep my calendar visually calm

I love writing in my calendar, just using a thin mechanical bamboo pencil. My favorite is the OHTO 0.5 mm¹. I've had it for a long time now. I'm just a sucker for these wooden gadgets, and I have tiny hands, so 10/10 recommend 🙂

Another »minimalist« quirk of mine is that I like writing in capital letters. I don't have a super good handwriting, when I'm in a hurry, and when I'm writing in my calendar, I often am. So, for the sake of visual calm, this is how I do it.

You can also use the area at the bottom of the page for notes, to dos or shopping lists. That is one of my takeaways from working a lot with the Cornell note-taking system in university. It can also be used for gratitude journaling. That is something I like doing at the end of the month. Just looking back and taking notice of what happened over the past weeks…

Minimalist calendar: I printed mine and clipped it to a piece of thick cardboard using a paper clip. I don't like buying extra items that are single-purpose and that I rarely need but for the one purpose they bring. So I didn't want to have a clipboard. This piece of cardboard however I also use for photos as a background or underground. That is why I like this minimal solution. If I ever get tired of the calendar, I can just take it apart and I'm good.

There are two versions, one with a very light font-weight (ultra-light), the other with a slightly bolder type (light). The ultra-light version looks best on laser printers with 1200 dpi. The light-weight versions is for you, if you have trouble reading or want to be able to read the dates from a distance. Or if you just like thicker fonts 🙂 It's also better for ink printers.
